"A photograph captures not only what is in front of the camera, but who is behind it."

My work involves a vital examination of my world and those within it. I admire Nan Goldin, and aspire to achieve her "unusual degree of empathy" and ability to be present for, and photograph, the most intimate moments of people's lives. I believe in the importance of integrity in the discipline of art, and the responsibility we have as artists to share something of purpose.

A camera is my chosen creative tool because it allows me to experience a different level of life while making my art. Photography can enlighten us, give us a deeper understanding of ourselves, embolden us, and humble us. If I didn't have my camera and curiosity, or care deeply about my subjects, I would miss being woven into the fabric of others' lives, and my own would be greatly diminished.
